Not buying a house anytime soon? Then Wild Heron Lifestyle has you sorted for the best brunch spots south side. Spending money on smashed avocado will never feel better.

Otto Epicurean

Station St, Sandringham

Otto is one of Sandringham’s newest cafes and has quickly become its most popular social hub. Set in the heart of the quaint village centre, it’s young, fresh and trendy with a friendly and fun vibe. It’s spot on the corner means you can sit, sipping your coffee and watch the hustle and bustle of the world go by from behind the secluded outdoor blinds. Otto is a dog friendly café, which is more than handy with the stunning coastline only a few minutes walk away. In summer months nothing can beat their ice coffee in a jar or even Brunswick Bitter on tap. Winter is no let down either. Thanks to gas heaters, you can still sit outside on a cold winter’s morning.

Litte Ox

New St, Brighton

It’s nestled on one of Brighton’s most prominent roadways and is only a block from Elsternwick Park, meaning The Little Ox is the perfect spot for some smashed avo and a coffee after taking the dog for a walk. A range of treats will greet you on arrival, including a brekky burger with crispy beer battered chips, a seedy honey porridge and a mocha with the perfect mix of chocolate and coffee. The Ox is another of those modern Melbourne brunch spots showcasing vibrant colours, comfortable dining and a relaxed beachside atmosphere.

Fergus

301 Wattletree Road, Malvern

With an endorsement from MasterChef host and author Matt Preston, who thinks Fergus is “warm, light and calm” (Herald Sun Weekend, August 23, 2014), these are some damn good credentials you just can’t go past. The centrepiece of the all-day breakfast menu is the pumpkin, corn and coriander fritters with soft avocado, juicy cherry tomatoes, dill yoghurt and a melting poached egg on the side. The lunch menu does not disappoint the tastebuds either with a number of tasty selections to choose from, such as the wagyu beef burger, herb chicken and avocado, pulled pork tacos and more. With wine and beer also on the menu, Fergus has you sorted for any kind of mood.

The Hamptons Bakery

427 Hampton Street, Hampton

New kid on the block, The Hamptons, adds a selection of fresh bread and pastries to the luxuries of a modern Melbourne café. It has an open plan and spacious dining area with stylish mood lighting that is constantly buzzing with chatter from local baysiders. If that won’t keep you coming back, then their food will. With a wide variety of dishes to choose from, such as a creamy smashed avo with a poached egg and the option of smoked salmon for extra, a plate of fluffy buttermilk pancakes, homemade potato gnocchi or eggs benedict, combined with a smooth latte, The Hamptons Bakery has you covered for breakfast, brunch and lunch.

Neighbours Cafe

42 Chapel Street, St Kilda

It’s an old corner shop turned a stylish coffee spot that has added some colourful graffiti on the outside and secluded courtyard and garden dining area at the back. Situated at the quieter end of Chapel St, Neighbours Café has it all, including a relaxed atmosphere to enjoy your smashed avo and poached egg, salt and pepper calamari, Jamaican jerk chicken salad or whatever takes your fancy. With delicious berry, mango and banana smoothies to accompany their coffees, this place is certainly worth a try.

High Society

1102 High St, Armadale

Smack bang in the middle of Armadale’s bustling bridal district on High St, High Society’s all day breakfast menu is not just delicious food but also works of art. Elegant streaks of sauces such as beetroot and yoghurt are drizzled over plates, and exotic ingredients like whipped feta and rose petals guarantees that every dish is a bombshell of colour. The slow cooked spiced lamb is a delicious offering, especially if you like chickpeas. With gluten free, dairy free and vegan options and a new menu for 2017, High Society is sure not to disappoint.

Horace Street

1406 High St, Malvern

From the outside, Horace Street looks rather plain. A grey brick wall and three white tables under a grey umbrella on a corner block doesn’t exactly jump out at you as an exciting eatery. Situated in a relatively quiet part of Malvern, you could easily walk past and head for the bustling streets of Armadale just a stone's throw down the road. But if you stop and spend a moment sipping a delicious coffee in the morning sun on those white tables outside, you will discover another High St favourite. With that homely feeling, friendly service and vibrant flowers sprucing up your plate, Horace Street is a great way to start the day. Perhaps the signature is the beef burger with pickled cabbage. Or maybe the poached egg, pumpkin bread and beetroot. You’ll have to decide.

Mr Foxx

1491 Malvern Rd, Glen Iris

With a retro feel, courtesy of wooden features, brown leather chairs and big glass windows at the front, Mr Foxx emits a cosy ambience and is the perfect place for a coffee to keep you warm on a cold winter's day. But with a Friday happy hour and burger night, it’s also the place to be for some cheap beers and Pimm’s in summer. The beef burger comes with succulent melting cheese and caramelised onion on top and a spicy dijonnaise for extra kick. With a reputation for some of the strongest coffee going around, Mr Foxx is also a great spot for breakfast or brunch and that morning pick me up.
